Homelessness is an on-going national crisis and one of the most daunting challenges of our times.
The City is actively engaged in a number of initiatives and programs aimed at disrupting the root causes of homelessness, increasing and maintaining affordable housing stock in the community, and preventing or reducing experiences of homelessness.
The City engages in this work through:
- Direct social service outreach through the Community Resources Unit and Mobile Outreach Team;
- Clean-up response through the Public Works Rapid Response Team;
- Coordinated efforts with regional and community partners, including the Regional Housing Council;
- Funding the work of non-profit and other governmental entities; and
- Advocacy for more comprehensive solutions to homelessness at the state and federal level.
Through this work, the goal of the City is to provide and support services in the community that are delivered with compassion, enhance public safety and wellbeing for all, and are legal.
